Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Parade and Party, Tuesday Feb 5 – Galveston

Two weeks of Carnival culminated in one last night of revelry, Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras literally translated means ‘Tuesday Fat’. February 5, was the final night of celebration for Mardi Gras 2008 before the Lenten season.

The Mystic Krewe of Aquarius led the way, as the final parade of the season pulled out of the staging area, at 25th and Strand. The route took us down Postoffice, 19th street and then on to the historic Strand. Tens of thousands of people, young and old, lined the streets vying for treasured strings of beads.

Listen in as Talk of the Bay captures the excitement of some of the parade participants before and after this wonderful event. Then we’ve got Jim Harrison, who is the king of the final ‘official krewe party’, at Cocktails. And finally, Duchess Carolyn Kalich, warmly expressing the joy of the Mardi Gras season.

Thanks to all of the krewes that spent time with us this season and a huge hug to all of the wonderful people and new friends that Eddie and I met. Your generosity gave us the opportunity to cover so many of this season’s great Mardi Gras events. We sincerely hope you enjoy the stories and the photos.
