The Bravo Award recognizes “persons who contribute unselfishly for the
betterment of the Galveston community”. Jim and Lynda Guidry were selected
as recipients because of their devotion and commitment to provide the most
extensive coverage of community activities and events in the Gulf Coast
area, particularly public meetings.
Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas was the Master of Ceremonies.
"In 1996, when Jim and Lynda married, their union resulted in an explosive
whirlwind, I think, of the creative forces that still sweeps the entire Gulf
Coast and keeps Galveston astir," Mayor Thomas
said.
Joining Mayor Thomas in recognizing the Guidrys were elected officials,
community and business leaders, and appreciative friends and family.
"The ongoing message of the evening from the speakers was the integrity,
fairness, honesty, and professionalism of Jim and Lynda Guidry’s coverage of
the news and Guidry News Service’s valuable contribution of presenting the
news in a world-wide format via the Internet," said publicist Pat Patton.
Mary Ross, Co-President of the League of Women Voters-Galveston Area, read a
proclamation issued by Dickinson Mayor Julie Masters designating March 28,
2008, as Lynda and Jim Guidry Day. Mary Ross and Lynn Thompson, a founder of
the League of Women Voters-Galveston Area Bravo Award presented the award to
Jim and Lynda Guidry.
"Lynda and I are very appreciative of the recognition by the League of Women
Voters of the Galveston area," said Jim Guidry after the ceremony.
"We also were pleased to have the opportunity to introduce our associates
who help us provide the news service to our audience on the Gulf Coast,"
added Lynda Guidry.
Jim and Lynda began Guidry News Service on July 8, 1996. Guidry News Service

established the Public Information Office for the Department of Public Works
and later became special assistant to then Mayor Jim McConn.
Lynda’s experience includes a previous career as an independent interior
designer specializing in adaptive reuse of urban properties, condominium

conducting marketing research for various oil and gas companies and as a
Director of Membership Services for the Galveston Chamber of Commerce. In
1997 Lynda coined the term “Webio Journalism” to describe GNS’s method of
