Craddick Appoints Taylor to the Select
Committee on Property Tax Relief and Appraisal Reform
by Cari Christman
(AUSTIN)- Speaker Tom Craddick (R-Midland), appointed Rep. Larry Taylor
(R-Friendswood) to the Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Appraisal
Reform, which will oversee all matters relating to property tax relief and
reforming the property appraisal system.
"Rep. Taylor is an experienced lawmaker with a proven dedication to ensuring
fairness in our tax system," Speaker Craddick said. "He has a solid track
record with fiscal matters from his work on the House Appropriations
Committee, and he will collaborate well with the other members on this
committee."
The committee will review the sections of the Texas Constitution and the tax
code that limit or authorize limiting the appraised value or increases in
the appraised value of property for tax purposes. It may request assistance
from any executive branch agency, and it will issue a report to the House of
Representatives before the 81st Legislative Session, which may include draft
legislation or recommendations for legislation.
"I am honored that Speaker Craddick has asked me to serve on this important
committee and I look forward to considering alternatives to our current
property tax based school funding system," Taylor said. "I will work to make
sure that any proposed changes we consider will help Texas to continue to
promote a favorable business environment, support home ownership for our
hard-working Texas families and provide adequate resources to ensure the
quality education our children deserve and our State’s future is dependent
on."
Rep. Taylor is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, House
Insurance Committee and House Calendars Committee. He represents District 24
in Galveston County and is serving his third term in the Texas House of
Representatives as a member of the 80th Legislature.
