Councilman Mike Barber announced today that
he will run for reelection to League City Council Position No. 2
Mr. Barber has served one full term on City Council. During his three years
on council, Mr. Barber has served as the Voice of Reason on what has become
an increasingly more contentious council as League City struggles to deal
with its rapid growth.
Mr. Barber was born in San Antonio on June 20, 1966. He graduated from
Midwest City High School in Oklahoma as a National Honors Society member,
Parade High School All-American football player, and All-State Shot-putter.
Mr. Barber received a scholarship to play football for the University of
Texas Longhorns as an offensive tackle but was injured during the Spring
semester of his freshman year ending his football career.
Mr. Barber received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of
Oklahoma in 1995. He completed his Psycho-pharmacy Residency and Fellowship
in Kansas City, Missouri and accepted a faculty job in 1997 at the
University of Houston College of Pharmacy. In July 2000, he accepted a
position in the Medical Affairs Dept. at AstraZeneca, where he works to
support clinical trials and help provide scientific data to physicians to
assist
them
in utilizing prescription medications in the treatment of their patients.
Mr. Barber was married to his wife, Beth, in 1999. They live in Victory
Lakes with their newborn son, Vincent, and are committed League City
residents. Mr. Barber stated that "it's been an honor and pleasure to serve
as your Councilman the past three years. I have decided to run for
re-election to finish the projects that I promised during my initial run for
City Council in 2005." "I still believe that the citizens of League City
want and deserve a city councilman who is
· Fair, honest and ethical;
· Respectful of others (even those who disagree with his ideas);
· Committed to ensuring that our schools and neighborhoods get the support
they need from our City;
· Determined to improve our traffic problems;
· Dedicated to implement a Comprehensive Master Plan for growth; and
· Immune from being pressured by big money interests.
If that is the kind of councilman that you want and you believe that I have
worked hard to represent you on these issues, then please cast your vote
this year to KEEP MIKE BARBER on City Council Position No. 2 for three more
years." If you have any questions, please e-mail me at
