Clear Lake W.A.D.E. Program introduces teens to
safe boating practices
submitted by Mindi Funderburg
The tenth annual W.A.D.E. (Water Activities Day Events) Program for teens,
hosted by the Houston Safe Boating Council and the Clear Lake Area Chamber
of Commerce, will be held at Clear Lake Park on NASA Parkway in June and
July. This program offers teens ages 13 and up three days of in-the-water,
hands-on training in the operation of powerboats, sailboats, kayaks and PWCs.
They receive classroom instruction in handling procedures, Texas boating
laws and boating courtesy. A written and skills test is given at the end of
the session and upon course completion students receive their Texas Boater
Basic Certification by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Division.
The two sessions, held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day, are scheduled
for June 16-18 and July 21-23. Each session is limited to 36 students and a
registration fee of $125 per student is required. Scholarships are also
available. Space is limited, so reserved your spot today.
