submitted by Stephen Glenn
The Seventeenth Annual Summer Kick-Off Fun Run will be held Saturday, May
10, 2008, at Clear Creek High School in League City, TX. This event includes
a 5K run, a 3K health walk, and a 1K kid's run (age 12 and under). This
year's run again features abundant refreshments, a TAC-certified and USATF
sanctioned 5K course, a chip-timed race finish with finisher's times mailed
out, specially-designed winner’s medals, a special award to all walkers, and
entertainment by Juan Manuel of Artist Unlimited. All participants will
receive a custom-designed, all-cotton T-shirt.
Awards will be given to the top overall and top masters men and women
finishers in the 5K run and to the top three finishers in each age group in
the 5K (0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54,
55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90 and over) and 1K (0-6,
7-9, 10-12) runs. Entry forms can be obtained beginning in March by calling
281-482-0982.
Proceeds are used to provide student scholarships at area high schools
through the James Glenn Foundation. James Glenn graduated from Clear Creek
High School in 1991. He met many of his goals and touched many lives in his
19 short years. He was an All-District place kicker each of the three years
he played varsity football, and he lettered in soccer two years. His skill
and determination earned him a position on the 1991 Southwest Conference
champion Aggie football team where he handled the kick-off duties the week
before he died of an undiagnosed heart problem. In the past sixteen years,
the James Glenn Memorial Fund has provided over $74,000 in college
scholarships to deserving students.
