Seventeenth Annual Summer Kick-Off Fun Run - May
10, 2008
Benefiting the James Glenn Foundation
And we have something for everyone: 5K run for runners, 3K walk for walkers,
Kids K run for 12 and under along with plenty of food. The weather should be
great again this year so take advantage of it before summer really moves in.
This year's run date is May 10th. So mark your calendar and register now. We
look forward to seeing you there.

How to Register
If you haven't registered yet now is the time to do it. Be sure to tell your
friends also. You can register on-line (including the family plan) at Online
Registration or you can download an entry form at Entry Form and mail it in.
You can also request an entry form by calling 832-932-1392. Additional
information is available on the run Web Site.
Some Reasons to Register
Great refreshments
Custom designed top quality 100% cotton shirt
ChampionChip timing and race scoring for quick accurate results
Cold Towel for all finishers
Custom Medals for race winners
5 year age groups to over 90 for 5K run
Kids K run chip timed
Mugs for all walkers
All runner times mailed out
Permanent web site - All past results on-line (many photos also)
Age graded results posted
All run results submitted to USAT&F for consideration of single year age
records
Dedicated League City Police and EMS protection
All proceeds benefit a good cause
We don't think you can get a better deal. Few runs are now charging less
than an $18 entry fee and they don't use chip timing, distribute towels,
mail out results, etc. And our late fee doesn't take effect until the last
day before the run. The Kick-Off Run is even a good deal with the late fee,
but don't make us collect it.
Honorary Race Starter will be Rice University Head Track Coach Jon Warren
We have had some great honorary race starters in the past, but never an
accomplished track star. What a novel concept for a running event! Jon
Warren has been the head track coach at Rice University since 2001. Jon's
2004 Owls won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championship, and he was
honored as the WAC coach of the year.
Jon began his freshman year at Rice in 1983. His many accomplishments during
his college career include setting and still holding the school 3000 meter
indoor record and setting the Rice record of 4:03.05 in the indoor mile.
After graduation Jon was a finalist in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the
1992 Olympic Trials and he placed eighth in the 1996 Olympic marathon trials
in only his second race at that distance. His best time in the mile is a
sub-4 3:59.30.
Jon has run competitively at distances from a mile to 26.2 miles. He
definitely knows running so plan on meeting him at the run and maybe getting
some advice on how to set your PR.
Entertainment by Juan Manuel
Juan will be performing at the Kick-Off Run for the 8th time this year. Juan
Manuel is a classical, flamenco, jazz guitarist/composer and singer whose
soothing sounds and moving tributes have made him a Kick-Off Run favorite.
Check out his web site.
ChampionChip Scoring
Don't forget that we will be using the chip again this year for both the 5K
and the Kid's K. Make sure you have yours properly attached. Otherwise your
time will not be counted. Even more importantly to us, make sure you return
the chip after the run. We will have attendants on hand to assist you if
necessary. (The ChampionChip is a sensor worn on the runner's shoe that is
detected as the runner crosses the start line and the finish line. It
accurately records the time and from that produces the race results,
including age group winners.)
Come for the Run - Stay for the Fun
If you live away from League City or have friends that live away, consider
spending the night at the South Shore Harbour Resort and enjoying the many
attractions in and around League City.
