14th Annual Bay Day Festival Provides Educational Family Fun
As the official start of summer nears, The Galveston Bay Foundation hosts
the 14th Bay Day Festival on Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the
Kemah Boardwalk. The free family event will feature live entertainment,
interactive exhibits, puppet shows, educational Bay cruises, and a scavenger
hunt. More than forty exhibitor booths will be displayed in the plaza areas
of the Boardwalk. The main entertainment stage will be located next to the
Kemah Boardwalk Inn. Featured acts include Bill Oliver, Captain Crab and the
Beach Patrol, and Kelly McGuire. Children will have fun learning about the
importance of the Bay in our everyday life at interactive booths. Exhibitors
will include the, Baytown Nature Center, Galveston Bay Estuary Program, Gulf
Coast Bird Observatory, Gulf Coast Turtle and Tortoise Society, Reliant
Energy and much more. A complete list of entertainment events and exhibitors
will be available at the Galveston Bay Foundation booth near the main stage.
GBF President Bob Stokes anticipates a very successful event this year. “Bay
Day is a family tradition that brings the community together to have fun
while learning about the importance of the Galveston Bay estuary system,”
Stokes said. “For the second year, cruises on the R. V. Karma will give an
additional dimension to the festival,” he said. The R.V. Karma is a
scientifically-equipped former commercial shrimp boat designed to teach
passengers about the ecology, economic and social features of the state’s
largest estuary.
The mission of the Galveston Bay Foundation is to preserve, protect and
enhance the natural resources of the Galveston Bay estuarine system and it
tributaries for present users and for posterity. For further festival
information contact GBF at 281-332-3381 or visit the website at
